Private-Pay Psychiatric Services

Private-Pay Psychiatric Services

Avicenna Centre for Brain Health provides private-pay psychiatric services for individuals who are not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) or another Canadian provincial or territorial health insurance plan for the requested service.

Who May Be Eligible?

Private-pay services may be appropriate for:

  • International visitors and tourists.
  • Individuals without Canadian provincial or territorial health insurance coverage.
  • Patients whose consultations or assessments are not publicly insured.
  • Third-party referrals, including medico-legal, occupational, insurance, or other independent psychiatric assessments where appropriate.

Alberta Residents Covered by AHCIP

If you are an Alberta resident with valid AHCIP coverage seeking medically necessary psychiatric assessment or treatment, these services are generally provided through the publicly funded healthcare system and are not offered on a private-pay basis.

If you are unsure whether your consultation is publicly insured or privately payable, our Patient Care Coordinator will be pleased to discuss your circumstances before booking an appointment.

Fees

Private-pay fees vary depending on the type of assessment, consultation, report, or follow-up appointment required. A fee estimate will be provided before your appointment, and payment is required in accordance with our clinic’s payment policy.

Where applicable, patients will receive a detailed receipt that may be submitted to their private insurer or international health insurance provider for reimbursement. Reimbursement is subject to the terms of the individual’s insurance policy.

Questions?

If you have questions about your eligibility for private-pay services or whether your consultation may be covered by AHCIP or another Canadian health plan, please contact our Patient Care Coordinator. We are happy to help determine the most appropriate pathway for your care before scheduling your appointment.
